Being the parent of toddlers, school-aged kids, and teenagers is all about keeping them happy, healthy, and entertained. While going on vacation when you were single and before you were a parent was about relaxation, it's now a bit more about ensuring that your kids enjoy themselves and that they don't fight. Whether you are planning a big family trip to somewhere tropical or you're heading into a big city, there are a few things to look for in a hotel to ensure that your kids stay happy.

Large Rooms

Depending on how much money you want to spend on accommodations, you may end up packing your entire family in one room or you may put your kids in their own room. Whichever option you go with, look for hotels that have large rooms; that way, your kids don't feel like they are crammed on top of each other. If you have more than two kids staying in one room, then you will want to make sure the hotel room can accommodate some cots or extra beds for the other kids to sleep on.

Activities

A lot of hotels these days will offer activities for kids of all ages. For instance, if you go to an island like Hawaii, they will typically have fun, beach-themed crafts for your kids to do, like learning how to make homemade leis. Other hotels have play areas for kids so that they can stay busy all day long while you are enjoying some rest and relaxation. If you have older kids, then you will want to look for a hotel that at least has a restaurant that they can eat at or a lounge where they can hang out.

Swimming Pool

Kids of all ages love to have a swimming pool. Look for a hotel that offers poolside food and drinks so that your kids can stay happy by the pool all day long without you ever having to leave. Also, look for a hotel that has a swimming pool with things like waterslides in it. These can keep your kids busy at the pool for longer than you may realize. If you have young kids, make sure that the hotel has a lifeguard on deck or that you are going to be watching them near the water so that they stay safe.
